On September 28, the DingTalk Summit, themed "The Way of Work in the AI Era," was held in Haining, Zhejiang. Hosted by DingTalk, Alibaba's AI-powered workplace platform, the summit attracted representatives from hundreds of outstanding enterprises in industries such as trade and manufacturing across the Haining region, who gathered to explore practical pathways for AI technology in enterprise digital transformation.
Sharing Local Enterprises' Digital Transformation Practices
As exemplary local enterprises in digitalization, the digital transformation leaders from Haining Leather City, a renowned national brand, and Zhejiang Xin Hui New Materials Co., Ltd., a specialized, refined, distinctive, and innovative enterprise, shared their experiences.
Haining, an important manufacturing and foreign trade hub in the Yangtze River Delta region, has a solid foundation in digitalization. According to DingTalk, nearly 35,000 enterprise organizations in Haining currently use DingTalk for daily operations and management, covering more than one-third of all registered businesses in the area. Among enterprises above designated size, nearly 60% are using DingTalk. Manufacturing enterprises make up the largest proportion, while sectors such as education, internet, and trade have also widely adopted the platform. Well-known local enterprises including Haining Leather City, Mars Kitchenware, Wangkai New Materials, and Xin Hui New Materials have all chosen DingTalk as their digital transformation platform.
DingTalk, a smart collaborative office platform with 700 million users, is committed to supporting digital transformation for Chinese enterprises. It now serves over 20 industries within the national economy, supports more than 26 million enterprises, and hosts over 1.41 million AI applications.
DingTalk Empowers Enterprises to Improve Efficiency
Lu Xiaoman, General Manager of DingTalk Service Center, stated in her speech: "AI represents a technological opportunity for all enterprises and industries, including China's manufacturing sector. As China’s largest AI productivity platform, DingTalk is dedicated to serving diverse industries with high-quality products and accessible AI solutions. We will continue our strong support for Haining’s enterprises."
Zhejiang Xin Hui New Materials Co., Ltd., a leading enterprise in China’s butyl rubber industry, began using DingTalk in 2017. In 2024, leveraging DingTalk's AI assistant, they built the Xin Hui Process Assistant, which helps employees resolve questions about internal procedures, significantly improving employee satisfaction. "DingTalk is comfortable for employees to use, easy for IT staff to manage, and offers great value for money," said Yang Jiajun, the company’s digital transformation lead.
Haining Leather City's Digital Transformation Journey
Representing Haining’s iconic “national brand,” Haining Leather City officially launched its digital transformation in 2018, adopting DingTalk as its unified workplace foundation and entry point, efficiently serving over 6,000 merchants at the main market and tens of thousands of retail outlets.
Yao Zhengyu, General Manager of Haining Leather City Network Technology Co., Ltd., systematically explained how this decades-old commercial complex achieved deep integration of business flows, approval processes, and data streams through DingTalk.
Yao pointed out that traditional enterprises often face a "siloed systems" challenge during digitalization: "Operations run on System A, approvals on System B, and data resides in System C. Employees must switch between multiple platforms every day, resulting in low efficiency and frequent errors." By deploying DingTalk's dedicated version, the leather city seamlessly integrated internal approval workflows with its self-built big data platform, achieving an integrated process where "approvals automatically generate contracts, and data is instantly fed back."
He illustrated this with the example of electronic contracts: "Previously, approvals were done online while contracts were processed offline. The process required manual downloading, printing, reviewing, revising, and signing—leading to chaotic version control. Now, with DingTalk, contract templates are automatically generated, variables filled in dynamically, and any edits made by personnel are traceable. This eliminates version confusion and operational risks from the outset." In the past, processing a single contract—from initiation to final archiving—took at least three days and up to a week. Today, it can be completed in as little as two hours. With over 20,000 contracts processed annually, Haining Leather City has saved over 100,000 yuan just in paper and printing costs.
Beyond workflow optimization, Yao emphasized DingTalk’s value in permission management and system integration. By using DingTalk as a unified identity source, the leather city achieved real-time synchronization between organizational structure and access permissions across business systems. "Whenever an employee changes roles, their access rights across all systems are automatically adjusted. Access to confidential information is immediately revoked, preventing internal data leaks."
Meanwhile, DingTalk acts as a "connector," integrating data across multiple internal modules such as merchant service platforms, logistics systems, financial systems, and parking systems. Yao gave an example: "After integrating parking system data, we can accurately identify customer origins, duration of stay, and even assess purchasing intent by combining this with membership data—providing solid grounds for precise marketing." This interconnected data capability not only improves operational efficiency but also delivers real-time, multidimensional data support for corporate decision-making.
A New Chapter in Transformation Toward the AI Era
From optimizing contract workflows and managing permission risks to operating data assets and exploring AI applications, each step of the leather city’s transformation closely addresses real business pain points, focusing on tangible outcomes rather than abstract concepts.
Reflecting DingTalk’s philosophy of "inclusive technology," the true value of AI and digital tools lies not in how advanced the technology itself is, but in its ability to genuinely help enterprises improve efficiency, reduce costs, and mitigate risks. On this vibrant ground of manufacturing and trade in Haining, the collaboration between DingTalk and Haining Leather City has become a "best practice model" for regional digital transformation, offering replicable guidance for more traditional enterprises embracing AI and achieving intelligent upgrades.
"Looking ahead, beyond better serving our merchants, we are also considering sharing the digital transformation experience accumulated over the past decade with more enterprises in Haining, empowering local businesses. At the same time, we’ll work with DingTalk to explore more AI application scenarios and embark on a new chapter of transformation in the AI era," said Yao Zhengyu.
