From Born Global to Fully Embracing AI

On August 25, at DingTalk's 10th anniversary and the launch event for AI Diamond 1.0, Shokz CIO Chen Xiangshuai delivered a keynote speech.

He shared in detail Shokz Technology’s innovative journey from a tech explorer to a global leader in bone conduction, as well as its experience co-exploring digital and intelligent transformation with DingTalk. Chen stated that they chose DingTalk for its "pragmatism and willingness to listen," and that both parties will continue working together to explore a new organizational future defined by being “born globally, grown with AI.”

Shokz Technology began its globalization journey in 2012. At the brand’s inception, it made a splash at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) with a modest booth of less than ten square meters, capturing attention with its bone conduction technology. Visitors queued up to try the product, and U.S. retail giant Best Buy sent representatives five times to discuss collaboration, eventually forming a deep strategic partnership. At the time, The Wall Street Journal featured this rising Chinese tech star on its front page, accelerating Shokz’s rapid rise in the North American market.

"Bone conduction headphones were still 'counterintuitive' in 2010," Chen recalled during his reflection on technological breakthroughs. This technology transmits sound waves through vibrations in the temporal bone directly to the auditory nerve, bypassing the eardrum—making it ideal for sports scenarios and accessible to people with certain hearing needs. However, innovation did not come easily: between 2007 and 2014, Shokz iterated through five generations of technology and launched six products, yet continued to face lukewarm market responses. 2015 became a pivotal turning point—the Titanium headphone, equipped with floating shock absorption technology, broke through user experience barriers and achieved dual success in both technology and market adoption.

Today, Shokz has built a sales network spanning over 60 countries and regions, with presence in more than 28,000 offline stores worldwide. Cumulative global sales have surpassed 18 million units. It holds a leading position in the premium sports headphone market in North America, with overseas revenue accounting for over two-thirds of total revenue. The company owns more than 5,000 patents and has received the National Invention Patent Gold Award, solidifying its status as a global leader in bone conduction technology. From 2015 to 2022, the company’s business scale grew one hundredfold over seven years.

Faced with expanding global operations and exponentially increasing business complexity, Shokz Technology launched an in-depth digital transformation initiative in 2019. "Relying solely on our own capabilities wasn’t enough—we needed a more professional and comprehensive partner, which is how we found DingTalk."

Chen emphasized that rapid business growth depends on three key elements: talent, knowledge, and operational collaboration. As such, Shokz restructured its IT architecture, embedding over 60% of its technical staff directly into business units such as supply chain, finance, and marketing, and partnered with DingTalk to deeply explore these three areas.

In the past, HR teams spent significant time collecting resumes. Now, Shokz uses RPA to download resumes into DingTalk’s AI-powered spreadsheets, where AI automatically scores and tags them—completing initial screening of large volumes of resumes within seconds, freeing HR to focus on interviews.

Once hired, how can employees quickly integrate into the organization and keep pace with operations? Traditional mentorship and training programs proved insufficient. Shokz therefore leveraged DingTalk’s knowledge base to build knowledge maps for each department—including supply chain, R&D, HR, and marketing—deeply linking knowledge to actual operations. This enables knowledge to find people proactively, reducing learning costs and significantly boosting employee motivation for self-directed learning. Additionally, Shokz has created over 800 enterprise encyclopedia entries on DingTalk. When new employees encounter terms like “floating shock absorption technology” in chat groups, they can simply tap to access explanatory pages, using fragmented time to grasp company operations and get up to speed faster.

For global collaboration, DingTalk Meetings’ AI real-time translation eliminates language barriers across borders, while automatically generating meeting minutes and follow-up tasks, ensuring efficient progress on international projects.

Shokz is also conducting deep exploration into AI applications with DingTalk. By leveraging large language models and internal knowledge bases, Shokz has reengineered its “Shared Service Assistant,” replacing a rigid SaaS system with dynamic, precise Q&A guidance. Meanwhile, using DingTalk, Shokz has developed over 700 AI agents, empowering business teams to rapidly turn innovative ideas into reality. An AI-powered customer service script bot helps new support staff reach proficiency quickly, greatly improving customer satisfaction.

Chen specifically highlighted: "The key reason we chose DingTalk lies in its practical approach and fast responsiveness. Our six-year partnership has consistently advanced the vision of 'born globally, grown with AI.'" He invoked Shokz’s brand philosophy of “Be Open” to echo DingTalk’s innovation ethos of “stay hungry, stay foolish, stay open,” expressing that both sides will deepen cooperation to jointly explore the future of intelligent global organizations.
